T&E 4101 Performance Flight Testing I

Course Description

An intensive overview of the methods used to make performance evaluations of propeller driven aircraft. Emphasis is placed on subsonic aerodynamics, pitot statics and reciprocating engine theory.

Anticipated Student Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course of instruction, the student will have a basic understanding of performance flight test procedures, techniques, and data analysis. He/she will:

Understand
1.  Dimensional analysis and be able to perform dimensional calculations.
2.  How subsonic aerodynamics affect aircraft performance.
3.  Propeller theory and certification requirements.

Know
4.  How drag polars are determined and how they are used for modeling
5.  Pitot-static theory and be familiar with the Standard Atmosphere.
6.  Takeoff and landing theory requirements and flight-test techniques.
7.  How to test and evaluate the cruise performance of propeller-driven aircraft.
