NTPS adds a new aircraft to the fleet

Monday, 12 April 2010

NTPS will soon be flying a Saber 60 business jet to support FAA and Professional Course flight test training.

The Saber 60 business jet will support FAA flight test training courses and provide a Part 25 class aircraft for Professional Course performance and flying qualities evaluations.  The aircraft will also be integrated into the Avionics systems modules.  Prior to the acquisition, the school used various Citation and Lear business jets on lease arrangements.

The Saber 60 is equipped with Pratt-Whitney JT12-8A engines, dual flight director, Collins autopilot, weather radar, radar altimeter, GPS and Loran.  The aircraft will not enter service until late June in order to finish crew training and to modify the aircraft with the school’s standard instrumentation system (see related article).  Data will be recorded via Pi Research data logger, and real time data displayed on flat panel screens.  The goal is to keep the aircraft in its Normal category while providing the necessary data to support training.
