L-39 Albatross

The Aero Vodochody L-39C “Albatross” is a two-seat, single-engine jet trainer. It was developed to train pilots for Eastern Block MiG, Sukhoi and other aircraft. To date, more than 2,800 L-39s have served with over 30 air forces around the world. The Albatross is the most widely used jet trainer in the world performing basic pilot training, advanced pilot training and light ground attack missions. The aircraft is powered by a single AI-25TL, non-afterburning turbofan engine, generating a maximum of 3,800 lbs of thrust. The L-39 has a maximum takeoff weight of 10,380 lbs. The aircraft is capable of altitudes approaching 37,000 ft and at low gross weights, the load factor limits are +8.0/-4.0 g’s. The NTPS L-39 aircraft are equipped with operational ejection seats with current pyrotechnics.
