The National Test Pilot School (NTPS) is pleased to announce the opening of the annual application window for its Flight Test Engineer Graduate Assistant Scholarship Program (FTE GA).
The roots of the NTPS FTE GA program go back to 2007, however in 2012 NTPS completely revamped it into the unique aerospace/flight test community give-back program it is today. NTPS recognized that there was a significant need for more school-trained flight test engineers in the aerospace profession and very few paths to get there for a civilian engineer. Thus in 2012 NTPS launched the new 3-year FTE GA scholarship program to produce FTE graduates with FTE education & training coupled with FTE experience. Since then NTPS has provided 10 fully trained Flight Test Engineer graduates with Professional Course FTE certificates, Master Degrees in Flight Test Engineering, and 3 years of FTE experience to the aerospace/flight test communities. This was done at no cost to the students nor the companies that hired them; a community give-back by NTPS valued at over $7.5 million. Some of our fellow aerospace community members who have benefited from the FTE GA program are: NASA, Lockheed, TSC, MTSI, Blue Origin, Cirrus, Icon, AeroTec, Aurora, and XWing. OBTW for those interested there are 7 more FTEs currently in the pipeline with more on the way!
The NTPS FTE GA program is a unique foundational development and career launching opportunity for engineers who want to become flight test professionals. Each year, NTPS selects 1-2 highly qualified candidates for the intensive 3-year program. At the end of the program, the graduates typically earn a Professional Course FTE Certificate and an accredited Master of Science Degree in Flight Test Engineering. Our graduates also gain significant flight test engineering job experience by participating in R&D projects, FTE projects, and school exercises. Those applicants not selected as FTE GAs are eligible to compete for a scholarship in the NTPS Flight Test Master’s full-time or part-time programs.
NTPS is the World’s Test Pilot School and our FTE GA Program reflects that too. We welcome applicants from around the world who have graduated with an accredited engineering degree. Previous selectees have come from the US, South Africa, India, Italy, and Peru. We especially encourage women engineering graduates to apply as part of the NTPS strategic goal of increasing women in the flight test profession.
