NTPS Class 2015A has arrived and started their training. The 2015A class includes members from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Italy, and the United States. They will soon join the members of Class 2014B to begin work on the six-month Systems Course. We are excited to welcome the new class and wish them the best on their educational journey!

The National Test Pilot School (NTPS) announced that it formally submitted its Application for an EASA Part – ORA ATO Approval in late May 2014 and it was registered by EASA in early June 2014. This is the first formal step in the process for NTPS to receive EASA Approval as an Authorized Training Organization (ATO) for Flight Test. NTPS President and CEO, Dr. AL Peterson, stated that “NTPS is committed to meeting the flight test education and training needs of our EASA member customers and our application for approval as an EASA Flight Test ATO demonstrates the seriousness of that commitment. We look forward to working with EASA to complete the ATO approval process as soon as possible.” NTPS currently conducts flight test education and training that meets or exceeds the known EASA requirements for Category I and Category II flight test personnel and for Flight Test Instructors.

The NTPS RPV module introduces our flight test students to remotely piloted vehicle (RPV) flight test techniques (FTT) and test procedures.  The course uses an FAA approved C-150 Optionally Piloted Aircraft (OPA) with a safety pilot on board.  Control of the aircraft is passed from the safety pilot to the Ground Control Station after the OPA climbs over 500 feet above ground level.  The RPV Module focuses on how to apply previously learned P&FQ and Systems flight test techniques to an air vehicle and system that is being piloted or controlled remotely.  Additionally, the OPA is fully integrated into the NTPS TM room allowing other students to manage the complex FTT missions from a segregated control room as the Test Director.

BY JOYCE GRANT, FROM MOJAVE DESERT NEWS

MOJAVE – At the July 16 board meeting of the Mojave Air and Space Port, Dr. Allen Peterson reported on the success of Flight Test Camp, which was held at the National Test Pilot School (NTPS) located on airport grounds.
Peterson, a board director and President/CEO of NTPS, stated that the school made a substantial investment in the training of several local high school students who attended the inaugural flight test camp (FTC) from July 8 through 13.
A three-day reduced version of the FTC will be offered for teachers from the schools involved before the end of the year, said Peterson, who called the camp an unqualified success which drew great praise from students, parents, and educators.
The NTPS goal for FTC was to introduce and excite young people about flight test engineering as a possible course of study/career path, to highlight potential career opportunities in flight test and engineering available in local high tech organizations, and to put a boost into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs at local schools.
