The Gippsland GA-8 “Airvan” is a single piston engine high-wing aircraft operating under an Experimental Airworthiness Certificate. It is capable of carrying five passengers with a flight crew of two. It is powered by a Lycoming IO-540-K1A5 up to 300 HP at sea level. The Airvan has a maximum takeoff weight of 4,000 lbs. The NTPS Airvan is modified to have a Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) system in the cargo pod. The cockpit is Night Vision Goggle (NVG) compatible. NTPS operates the Airvan in Night Vision Imaging Systems (NVIS), Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) systems, Performance and Flying Qualities flight test instruction.
