The Quality Inspector’s primary responsibilities include inspection, documentation, engineering support, and Part 145 Repair Station operations. Each of these is the major component which leads directly to their overall goal of ensuring the continued airworthiness of NTPS fleet aircraft.

Use your skills and experience to:

Inspection

  • Perform detail-oriented physical inspections on fixed and rotary wing airframe and powerplant configurations using manufacturer processes and recommendations.
  • Where manufacturer recommendations are not available, utilize best practices and experience to provide practical and conservative determinations on the airworthiness of air vehicles.
  • Effectively troubleshoot squawks as provided by flight crews to determine the root cause of an issue by thorough evaluation of a structure, engine, system, or component-based upon knowledge of fundamental aircraft operation.
  • Perform specialized non-destructive testing to include borescope techniques and precise dimensional analysis.

Documentation

  • Ensure that aircraft logbooks and internal work orders are updated to represent the latest work performed on each aircraft.
  • Accurately log time in service, cycles, fatigue life, etc. for a multitude of different aircraft with a diverse set of requirements.
  • Update manuals, and maintenance programs for experimental aircraft to be aligned with best industry practices and latest manufacturer ICA revisions.
  • Ensures the most up-to-date technical data is utilized for inspection of aircraft, and the aircraft is compliant with the latest FAA Airworthiness Directives.
  • Uphold a firm understanding of the FAR’s and how to properly implement them during aircraft maintenance.

Engineering Support

  • Provide support for the installation of aircraft modifications to include, but not limited to, flight test instrumentation, research project support hardware, and supporting equipment design and manufacturing.
  • Establish instructions for continued airworthiness for permanent installations and modifications added at NTPS.
  • Integrate with engineering teams to positively influence the design and overall outcome of internally designed aircraft modifications.
  • Work with outside vendors and ensure aircraft airworthiness throughout the lifecycle of flight test support projects, from initial feasibility evaluations to aircraft de-modification.

Part 145 Repair Station

  • Establish a Part 145 Repair Station for Pitot-Static and Transponder IFR recertification through the Van Nuys FSDO.
  • Upon establishment of the Repair Station Certificate, ensure the certificate is maintained, and uphold the agreed-upon quality program, training program, and documentation structure.
  • Evaluate best paths for Part 145 repair station growth to support NTPS programmatic efficiency, overall capabilities of the NTPS maintenance department, and business strategy.

Generalized Aircraft Maintenance

If required, the Quality Inspector may be asked to perform physical maintenance actions on the floor and supporting activities for aircraft maintenance such as parts ordering or tool calibration.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant Licenses with Inspection Authorization required.
  • Non-destructive inspection training certificate preferred.
  • FAA Pilot Certificate preferred.
  • High school Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Associate or higher degree in aviation maintenance or related
  • Type-specific training for King Air C90, Eurocopter EC-145, PT-6A, Garrett TPE-331, Allison 250, or other manufacturer-provided training on specific aircraft types preferred.
  • 10 years of experience working on experimental and type-certificated aircraft as a licensed A&P mechanic required.
  • 4 years (or 2 renewal cycles) of experience as an Inspection Authorization holder required.
  • In-depth experience with any of the following: flight test, helicopter-specific operations, jet warbird operations and maintenance, corporate operator aircraft maintenance, experimental aircraft manufacturing and modification preferred.
  • Must read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • May be required to communicate aircraft maintenance concepts to untrained or apprentice-like individuals.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Flight Schedule Pro and CAMP desired.

Avionics Technician - Job Opening

Use your Avionics experience to:

  • Install and test complex avionics equipment and electrical systems on aircraft.
  • Ensure that all avionics equipment works properly before take-off and that they do not interfere with any other electronic device.
  • Perform intricate and highly reliable soldering on components for navigation, and communication.
  • Assemble and install electrical components.
  • Provide accurate troubleshooting and repair of difficult avionics problems.
  • Maintain detailed records of all repairs and work performed on the aircraft.

Skills and Experience:

  • 5 years of previous work experience with aircraft electrical repair and with specific aircraft maintenance and repair manuals.
  • Experience with systems such as NAV/COM/ Autopilot, GPS, and ADSB.
  • Strong working knowledge of aviation safety practices and technology.
  • Thorough understanding of other aircraft systems, such as hydraulics and flight control.
  • The ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Able to help in other areas of maintenance, as needed
  • Certifications in electrical engineering or aviation maintenance preferred.
  • A&P License and prior experience in aircraft maintenance desired

A&P Mechanic - Job Opening

You will use your A&P License and experience to:

  • Inspect and examine aircraft components for leaks, cracks or issues.
  • Read and utilize blueprints, maintenance manuals, ATA codes, illustrated parts catalogs, service bulletins and other maintenance documents to troubleshoot and complete work assignments Perform routine maintenance operations, such as Annual Inspections, and phase inspections, lubes, Oil and filter replacements, etc. , and replacement of aircraft components.
  • Comply with ADs and SBs.
  • Troubleshoot and repair discrepancies found on the aircraft.
  • Support flightline activities including pre and post flights, and launching aircraft.
  • Complete all tasks in the allotted time frame and to the quality standards of our company, our customers and the FAA.
  • Promote safety within the workplace by monitoring others and yourself to guarantee all tasks are performed within the safety manual guidelines, and communicate with other mechanics and supervisors to coordinate repairs and keep apprised of safety concerns.
  • Order supplies, equipment, materials and parts for repairs and general maintenance.
  • Update maintenance records and log books and Keep detailed records of the inspections performed, repairs finished, maintenance procedures and parts ordered.

Skills and experience:

  • A&P License required
  • 2 years of A&P experience desired.
  • Helicopter Maintenance experience desired.
  • Some basic knowledge of Avionics systems.

Aircraft Flight Test Instrumentation Technician / Engineer - Job Opening

Job Summary

The National Test Pilot School is the world’s leading total flight test training and education organization and we are looking to fill an Instrumentation Technician/Engineer position. You will work as part of a close team helping to train the next generation of international flight test professionals. The position involves flight test instrumentation systems maintenance, operation and development in support of our talented students and an amazing fleet of aircraft spanning the spectrum from light civil fixed-wing, helicopters and up to a Mach 2 fighter.

 Principal Accountabilities

  • Install, test and support aircraft flight test instrumentation systems to meet NTPS requirements.
  • Support daily flight operations by assuring flight readiness of aircraft instrumentation and telemetry systems.
  • Interact with flight test instructors and maintenance, for definition of requirements, installation, calibration and troubleshooting of instrumentation systems.
  • Design flight test instrumentation systems to meet NTPS requirements.
  • Develop software/programming for proper operation, data acquisition and data reduction.
  • Develop and maintain systems for the checkout and ground calibration of flight test instrumentation.
  • Communicate instrumentation issues and functional status.
  • Coordinate with the personnel responsible for the control room the development and design of the displays, calibration files and configuration files.
  • Prepare technical reports and other documentation required to describe the design and testing of the instrumentation.
  • Prepare instrumentation procedures, checklists and provides recommendations for changes, resolving equipment and sensor selection problems.

Other Duties

  • Assist in other duties as assigned in support of the NTPS mission.

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering desired
  • 5 years of related work experience.

Physical Requirements/Working Environments

  • Standard 40-hour work week
  • Able to work flexible hours as needed to support NTPS mission
  • Able to perform lifting up to and including fifty pounds.
